LASIK Laser Eye Surgery in Austin, TX

contact lens

Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and other laser refractive procedures are more popular and, thanks to continued advancements in technology, more successful than ever. But what exactly is it?  And is it right for you?

LASIK and other laser refractive procedures work by altering the shape of the cornea.  This allows better focusing onto retina.  Light rays are focused better, which improves the clarity of your vision.  LASIK is used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. For most people, the procedure results in a reduced dependence of corrective lenses.  For others, it eliminates the need to wear glasses altogether.  The feeling of leaving your home without putting on your glasses or contacts in the morning is incredibly freeing.  And, of course, you have one less thing to misplace!

Custom LASIK incorporates breakthrough technology with the traditional procedure to produce even more favorable results.  With custom LASIK, you can correct visual flaws that are not addressed by the more basic LASIK surgery.  During the procedure, your eye is mapped using wavefront technology.  In many ways, this is like a fingerprint.  You have unique contours and a map helps correct irregularities in the cornea.  A small incision will be made in your cornea using a laser (also referred to as IntraLASIK, “bladeless” or “blade-free” LASIK), tissue is removed with precise laser treatment, and the cornea is reshaped to allow for better focusing.  This treatment can also improve glare, poor night vision, halos, starburst patterns, and haze, with results being almost immediate.

Visit us at Tech Ridge Vision to determine if custom LASIK is right for you.  Some medical conditions may preclude the ability to have the surgery, including advanced glaucoma, pregnancy, the presence of autoimmune diseases, and corneal disease.  For others, however, it can be the answer to better sight and a life without glasses.

We will be happy to evaluate your eye health and help you determine if custom LASIK is a viable option for you.  If it is, we will guide you through the steps of the procedure so you are prepared and comfortable.  And if not, we can discuss other treatment options with you.  We are ready to help you preserve and improve your vision in the manner that is best for you.
